Dalton Pietsch, Client

Attorney Jimmy Doan, the founder of the Doan Law Firm, P.C., brings his knowledge and experience in the successful management of fraternity hazing lawsuits to the service of his clients. Since founding the firm in 2005, he has represented the victims and families of illegal fraternity hazing incidents involving sexual abuse, forced alcohol poisoning, physical and psychological abuse, and forced abuse of controlled substances.

After law school Mr. Doan held a position with the Office of the District Attorney for Tarrant County, Texas, where he saw firsthand how fraternity hazings could shatter young college students and their families physically, financially, and emotionally. As a result of his experiences at the Tarrant County DA, Mr. Doan founded his law practice with the stated purpose of making sure that anyone injured as the result of reckless behavior or the deliberate maliciousness of another would have their legal right to compensation for their injuries protected and that those responsible for deliberately injuring another would be forced to bear the cost of their recklessness.

In keeping with his philosophy of service to others, Mr. Doan regularly speaks to civic and service organizations about the importance of protecting the rights of all citizens.

If your son was the victim of fraternity hazing, Mr. Doan strongly recommends that you hire an attorney who is experienced in the investigation of fraternity hazing incidents to make sure that all the facts will be brought to light so that those responsible for their son’s injuries will be held accountable in a court of law.

After a fraternity hazing accident reaches public attention, the local fraternity house, the fraternity’s national headquarters and the college administration will try to minimize the damage to their reputations. They will try to intimidate potential witnesses by threats of personal retaliation against anyone who talks to the police or a lawyer, by bribing their silence, or even by deliberately destroying any evidence of their wrongdoings. It is therefore critical that a victim of fraternity hazing obtain legal counsel as soon as possible after the incident, and the Doan Law Firm is prepared to fight relentlessly to protect your legal right to seek justice for your injuries.

Investigating Fraternity Hazing

Mr. Doan always reminds his clients that fraternity hazing is a crime in most states and can be the subject of a civil lawsuit in every state. Fraternity houses and college administrators have been known to tell victims that there is no legal basis to go to the police or to an attorney because the victim agreed to be a part of the fraternity and the hazing was therefore voluntary. These are lies that they desperately want you to believe so they can continue to shield the college and fraternity from negative publicity.

When Mr. Doan accepts a fraternity hazing injury case, he begins by first listening to the victim and / or the victim’s family and friends describe how the fraternity initiation was set up. From their descriptions and recollections he move on to a more complete investigation that will determine:

  • what happened during the initiation and hazing

  • if adequate safety measures were taken when preparing the initiation

  • the college’s policy concerning fraternity initiations and hazing

  • the name of the college faculty member who was responsible for “advising” the fraternity

  • the fraternity’s local and national positions on hazing

When these and any other investigations are finished, Mr. Doan will have the information that he needs to file a lawsuit against the fraternity, the college, and any individual who either planned or participated in the hazing.

Once the lawsuit has been filed, Mr. Doan will take an aggressive approach when dealing with fraternities and college administrators. His years of experience have taught him that a tough, yet reasonable, legal strategy is the best approach to winning the best possible settlement and thus the opportunity for the client to continue working through a traumatic life event.

With an extensive range of skill sets that allow him to tackle even the most complex legal cases, Mr. Doan is ready to handle any fraternity hazing case.
